Known as STEMcon (for STEMconference, STEMconnect, STEMcontact & STEMcollaboration) --STEMcon creates fun and interactive learning opportunities for Mid-Columbia students to explore the many possibilities of a career in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM). The annual four-day event series pairs students, educator and professionals in hands-on workshops lead by experts and designed to spark the imagination.

STEMconference-Held on the campus of Washington State University Tri-Cities, in Richland, on May 22nd and 24th students from across the Mid-Columbia will spend time with local scientists, engineers and teachers, participating in hands-on activities designed to give them a glimpse into the real-life work of local STEM professionals.  

STEM professionals from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), InnovaTek, WSU Tri-Cities, Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO), Vivid Learning, Hanford, Vista Engineering and other local organizations will lead the sessions.

These highly engaging, interactive, half- and full-day workshops cover an array of STEM-related topics but all have one goal: show students the many possibilities STEM careers have to offer.

STEMconnect-In celebration of the people and achievements of our STEM community, we host an evening "friend-raising" event on MAY 21st, as an opportunity to thank our community partners and educators, and to highlight the progress of STEM education in the Tri-Cities. 

STEMconnect features innovations in STEM education, Mentoring the Matters by Dr. Tahllee Baynard. Scientist of the Year by US Black Engineering & Information Technology Magazine, and four award presentations.

STEMcontact-It is imperative that interest in STEM fields begin early in a student’s education. Exposing students to the wide range of STEM career options is crucial in creating an understanding of the value of a STEM-focused education. 

With this in mind, we've developed a special outreach event for middle school-aged students. STEMcontact, features a fun and informative STEM-centered activity designed to peak interest in STEM professions.

On May 23rd, local STEM professionals will be paired with students from Delta High School to lead a hand-on workshop in classrooms across the Tri-Cities.

STEMcollaboration-Collaboration is the cornerstone of STEM education. Access to current industry trends, and tools, allow educators to create an innovative curriculum. Keeping our students on the cutting-edge of real-world  advances.

While students participate in STEMconference, teachers are invited to  take part in a  professional development workshop, facilitated by STEM professionals and Delta High School teachers. These engaging sessions will instruct educators on methods of STEM integration, showcase current technologies, and highlight ways to incorporate STEM into every classroom.
